INITIAL UK aND EASA CLASS 1 (PILOT) MEDICALS & CLASS 3 (ATCO) AT BIRMINGHAM AEROMEDICAL CENTRE, BIRMINGHAM AIRPORT
Birmingham Aeromedical Centre is a UK CAA & EASA approved Aeromedical Centre (AeMC) authorised to perform initial UK Class 1 and Class 3 medical examinations and assessments.
Applying for a UK Initial Class 1 or 3? You must apply for a UK CAA portal account and complete the medical application form online on Cellma before attending your medical. Please watch the video below.
Please also complete the Mental Health Questionnaire and bring it to your appointment. Please do not date or sign it.
It is advisable to bring your GP medical records to your appointment. You can complete the Request for Summary GP / Healthcare Records and give to your healthcare practitioner to facilitate getting your records.
Applying for an EASA Initial Class 1? You DO NOT need to apply for a UK CAA portal account. Simply complete the EASA Medical Application Form and bring with you to your medical.

We are one of only three Aeromedical Centres in the UK approved to certify applicants for an initial UK & EASA commercial pilot’s medical certificate, and are the only AeMC outside London and the South East with this approval.

The clinic is conveniently located at Birmingham International Airport ensuring easy access by road, rail or air. We are a 5 mins transfer from Birmingham International Train Station and we have free onsite parking. There are two budget hotels, Travel Lodge Birmingham Airport and Holiday Inn Birmingham Airport, adjacent to the clinic, perfect for those wishing to travel the night before.
Our clinic waiting room provides excellent views of runway 330 allowing you to enjoy take-offs and finals whilst waiting for your medical. FR24 and radio to tower are on hand, allowing you to identify the aircraft you are watching live. BHX has it fair share of go-arounds which you might very well catch.

Glasses or contact lenses if you wear them along with their prescription
Medical reports relating to any significant current or past condition

Psychoactive Substance Testing
Psychoactive substance testing is now included as part of all initial class 1 medical examinations. This will include a breath alcohol screening test and a mouth swab or urine screening test for drugs. If the screening test is positive, evidential testing will be carried out and the case referred to the Aviation Authority In the event of a positive screening test, additional laboratory and administrative fees will apply for evidential and confirmatory testing.
